Community Service Project
Every year as part of the Festival, we sponsor a community service project. This year, stream clean-ups are being organized for the morning of the festival.
Earth Day Stream Clean Ups
Saturday, April 21, 2007
9:00 am - 11:00 am
Be An Environmental Hero!
Join us at one of following sites:
- South Ellerbe Creek at Walltown Park
- Eno River at Snow Hill Rd. and Old Oxford Hwy
- Northeast Creek at Parkwood Branch Library on Revere Rd.
- South Ellerbe Creek Greenway at the kiosk on Green St. near Rand St.
- Bridge at Crooked Creek Parkway, off of Fayetteville Rd.
Thanks to our co-sponsoring organizations: AW of North Carolina, Crooked Creek Homeowners Stream Watch, Ellerbe Creek Watershed Association, Friends of South Ellerbe Creek, and Northeast Creek Stream Watch. For these groups, "Earth Day is Every Day" is more than just a motto – watershed stewardship is an ongoing commitment.
All volunteers will be furnished with work gloves, trash bags, snacks and beverages. As a special "thank you," we will also send volunteers home with "Rainy Day Duck" to promote our water pollution hotline (560-SWIM). Thanks to Durham County and the City of Durham Solid Waste Department for removing trash and debris collected from the streams.
After the clean-up, plan to head over to the Durham Earth Day Festival for more family fun.
To volunteer or for more information, please call Laura Webb Smith at (919) 560-4326, ext. 235 or email laura.smith@durhamnc.gov.
